How to Secure Relocation Resources, Even When the Hiring Company is NOT Offering Relocation Assistance

Let's face it, #inflation is high and #budgets are tight, for individuals, families, and businesses alike. This may lead some companies to avoid offering #relocation #assistance when #recruiting new #talent, because it's #cheaper to #hire #local. However, this should NOT deter you from #applying for #job #openings that align with your goals, especially if you're certain that you want to #relocate anyway. With that in mind, here are a few suggestions on how to secure #relocation #resources, even when the #hiring company is NOT offering #relocation #assistance.

  1. Start by Requesting Relocation Assistant Anyway: I mean, it never hurts to ask. Whether it's omitted from the job posting all together, or states so outright that no relocation assistance is to be expected, #exceptions can always be made for #exceptional #candidates.
  2. Negotiate a Signing Bonus: There might not be funding for #relocation #assistance, but there very likely could be a separate budget for a #signing #bonus - this is an incentivized category of funds, so it will be closely tied to your performance along with a set of metric-driven milestones. Shoot for a lump sum upfront, but negotiate for decent sized installments over your first 3 to 6 months of work if necessary.
  3. Ask for an #Advance on Your Future Earnings: If the bonus negotiation fails, then proceed with asking for an #advance. This approach can also be paid to you as a lump sum or in installments. This means that, unless you're also going to earn commission, you're likely going to earn less money later in the year.
  4. Research Local Resources: This approach can especially be helpful if you're seeking a new position due to job loss, or if you have other extenuating circumstances. There's Modest Needs Grants, Emergency Solutions Grants, The Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Program, and much more.
